Our responsible sourcing strategy

Behind the scenes, we’re working hard to continuously improve how we source our ingredients in a way that allows people, animals and the planet to thrive. Sourcing our food responsibly is critical for us to continue to use high-quality raw materials long into the future. It’s also an important part of what makes our customers feel good about our food.

We want to ensure that our sustainable sourcing programs drive lasting, meaningful outcomes on critical issues for people, animals, the environment and our business. We define sustainable sourcing through what we call the three “E”s, and we’ve identified seven priority impact areas to support them:

Chicken Nuggets

We might be famous for our beef burgers, but we care just as much about the chicken we serve. From cutting antibiotic use to protect human health to sourcing chickens with improved welfare outcomes, we’re committed to ensuring a sustainable supply of one of our most popular ingredients. Made with 100% seasoned chicken breast, Chicken McNuggets are a good source of protein with no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. We only use poultry producers who have been accredited and regularly audited by our suppliers. Strict animal welfare standards are in place, which have been developed with our chicken suppliers.

Vegetable Oil

The cooking oil used in the restaurants is a non-hydrogenated vegetable oil that is a blend of High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Sunflower Oil, Rapeseed Oil and High Oleic Rapeseed Oil. It is used to prepare the following products: Chicken McNuggets, Chicken Legend patties, McChicken Sandwich patties, Mayo Chicken patties, Filet-o-Fish portions, Spicy Vegetable patties, French Fries and Apple Pies. Since 1998 the levels of Trans Fatty Acids in our cooking oil have been reduced from 30% to below 2%. This is the lowest possible level that can be achieved because of the presence of naturally occurring trans fats in oils.
